Frequently asked questions
Everything shoppers ask before (and after) they buy. Can't find it? Talk to a human — we answer same-day.
Sizing & choosing
What size mini split do I need?
Plan on 20–30 BTU per square foot — roughly 12,000 BTU for a 500 sq ft space. Ceilings, sun, and insulation shift the number. Use the sizing calculator or send us your room sizes and we'll spec it free.
Single-zone or multi-zone?
One room = single zone. Several rooms can share one outdoor condenser as a multi-zone system — usually cheaper and cleaner than multiple singles. The system builder prices both in minutes.
Do mini splits heat and cool?
Yes — every system we sell is a heat pump that cools in summer and heats in winter. For sub-zero climates, choose Hyper Heat models that hold full output well below 0°F.
DIY installation
Can I really install it myself?
MRCOOL DIY systems use pre-charged quick-connect line sets — no vacuum pump, no refrigerant license. If you can mount a TV and drill one 3" hole, you can do this. We recommend a licensed electrician for the dedicated circuit.
What tools do I need?
Basic hand tools: drill with a 3" hole saw, level, wrenches, and a ladder. Everything refrigerant-related comes pre-charged and ready to connect.
How long does an install take?
Most single-zone DIY installs wrap in a weekend; many finish in an afternoon. Multi-zone adds roughly half a day per additional room.
Shipping & delivery
How fast is shipping?
In-stock systems leave the warehouse fast with free curbside freight delivery, typically arriving in about 4–10 days with tracking from day one.
What should I check at delivery?
Before signing, inspect every box and note any damage on the delivery receipt. That one habit makes any freight claim quick and painless.
Do you ship to Canada?
Yes — we've shipped DIY systems across the US and Canada since 2018. Duties and timelines vary; contact us for a quote.
Warranty, returns & payment
What warranty do I get?
Full factory warranties apply because we're an authorized dealer for every brand we carry. Register your system after installation to activate maximum coverage — we'll remind you how.
What's the return policy?
Unused systems in original packaging can be returned per our refund policy. Freight damage noted at delivery is always covered.
Can I finance my system?
Yes — Shop Pay Installments and PayTomorrow are available at checkout with terms up to 36 months. See the financing page for details.
Are there rebates?
Many utilities and some states run heat pump rebate programs that change often. Check the ENERGY STAR rebate finder or send us your ZIP — we'll point you to what's active.
